The Coffee Mill has been a family tradition since 1976. Started by Alice Schoelles and her sister, Evelyn Tyler, in the front room of a turn-of-the-century home near its present location, The Coffee Mill has evolved from selling eight varieties of coffee and a few teas.

The shop moved to the "Indian Rocks Station" on Indian Rocks Road in 1977, and has remained at the same location ever since. In 1981, a commercial coffee roaster was added to roast all the non-flavored coffees sold through the shop. Then in 1998, a separate, completely renovated coffee bar was added. Throughout the many building renovations and some growing pains, The Coffee Mill has continued to feature gourmet roasted coffees and select candies, cookies, kitchen items, and gifts.

Alice's daughter, Karen, continues the family tradition at The Coffee Mill. Her son David, who managed the coffee bar and did the roasting for many years, moved on to other ventures in early 2007.

Currently, The Coffee Mill offers over 75 coffees and dozens of teas as well as a wide assortment of candies, chocolates, spices, seasonings, jams, cookies, nuts, dried fruit, and homemade fudge. The main shop also carries kitchen gadgets, cards, and gifts for all occasions. Gift Baskets are another specialty and can be customized for any occasion. The separate Coffee Bar provides a quiet place to sip a great cup of coffee or a special coffee drink with both counter and table seating.

After all these years, the shop still has the atmosphere of an old-fashioned country store.
